Peterborough & District branch of CAMRA (campaign for real ale) today named The Woolpack in Stanground as its Pub of the Year 2016, as voted by branch members.
Branch spokesman Mike Blakesley said : “The pub (run by Linda and Pete Goddard) is a real olde world building steeped in history, and originally built in 1711. It has had many uses over the years from the village morgue to the local lock-up and a small military museum by a former landlord in the back room, the compact pub is a true community social Centre.
“Normally three or four hand pumps dispense a variety of beers, including LocAles from one of our local 15 breweries, the regular being one from Tydd Steam Brewery, Wisbech.
“They hold a beer festival each summer, there is a long garden which leads down to the river Nene backwater, with mooring for waterborne visitors an ideal spot for a summers day.”
As Peterborough Pub of the Year the Woolpack will go on to represent Peterborough in CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year award
There will be a presentation to Linda and Pete on Friday (February 12), all welcome.
