Whittlesey family aims to honour dad with 24 peak challenge

Pete Ingham will be joined at the end of May by wife Vicki, brother Christopher, sister Gemma Barrie and brother-in-law Chris Barrie for the huge challenge which will take in the Lake District, including Scafell Pike.

Pete, of Oldfield Gardens, will be thinking of dad Philip during the many climbs after his sudden death shortly after retiring aged just 62.

Philip became unwell over Christmas and was initially thought to have diabetes, but seven weeks later he passed away after learning that he had pancreatic cancer which had spread to his liver.

Pete said: “It’s been very tough. It’s shaken our family to the core and it’s been difficult to deal with.”

Pete wants to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund as currently only three per cent of people in the UK survive five years with the condition.

He added: “We wanted to set ourselves something that would not be easy so we could push ourselves to the limit and honour our father and try to raise some money. Our dad was central to our lives.”
