Yesterday was the warmest March day in the UK since 29th March 1968 when 25.6°C was recorded in Mepal - however, forecasters believe today could come close to breaking that record.

The mercury hit 24.5C at Kew Gardens yesterday - while Peterborough also saw one of its hottest March days on record.

Trevor Robbins-Pratt, from Peterborough Weather Watch, said it was the third warmest March day in the city since he started recording data.

However, it looks like the temperature may drop for the Easter weekend itself.

He said; “My high maximum of 20.1°C makes it the third highest temperature for March in my data series, which goes back to 2006. The top two are 22.0°C on 28th in 2012 and 21.0°C on 20th in 2017. I believe Wittering may have hit between 20.5 to 21.0°C

“It looks like today we will see between 19°C and 21°C across the forecast area, but very much cooler from Thursday onwards.”
