Amber rain warning no longer in place for Peterborough - but yellow warning remains

The amber warning had been in place from 6am yesterday (Tuesday) and was due to remain in place until noon tomorrow (Thursday).
The yellow warning covers the same times.
Speaking to The Peterborough Telegraph, Trevor Robbins Pratt, from Peterborough Weather Watch, said the city was due to miss the worst of Storm Christoph.

Hide AdHe said; "There are some very high rainfall totals being mentioned in the media, initiated by the Met Office warnings and other weather forecasting organisations.
"However, those extremely high totals are really not for Peterborough. The high accumulations are really for areas to the West and North of the area and some more Southern areas of the UK.
"The issue really with the anticipated rainfall is that with the rain we have already had in December and so far in January, the already saturated ground means that those areas prone to flooding, are at a high risk of flooding with any further persistent rainfall over a few days.
"As regard as to why we have seen quite a bit of rain recently, putting it into very simple terms, it's just that when areas of warm, moist air meet colder air, it initiates rain development and it just happens that the UK has been the dumping ground for rain laden fronts from those developments.

Hide AdThe yellow Met Office warning says: "Spells of prolonged and heavy rain may lead to flooding and disruption to travel in places.
"What to expect:
"Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
"Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life.
"Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible.

"Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads.
"Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.
