The Senior Stop Centre, which is run by older people’s charity, Royal Voluntary Service, is visited by nearly 100 older people a week. It welcomes people from the city and surrounding villages, who meet there regularly for craft and knitting workshops, information sessions or to have a catch up with friends over a cup of tea.

Now more volunteers are needed at the centre. Loraine Peters, centre manager, said: “There is no way we could run the centre without our 48 volunteers. We’re a very busy centre, some of our members come in every day – we’re open six days a week.”
