VIDEO: Packed weekend of fun at March festival

The streets of March came alive at the weekend as residents turned out to watch the Grand Festival parade, part of a weekend of music, dancing and entertainment in the town.

Steph Hare, one of the organisers, said: “After an unforeseen accident caused me to take over managing the event, everyone realy rallied round and helped to make it the huge success it was. Thank you so much to all our volunteers and committee members for their hard work.

“It was a very enjoyable weekend and we had hundreds of youngsters turning up to the Friday night event.”

With a theme of Top of the Pops, this year’s Summer Festival kicked off on Friday with the Rock in the Park showcasing young local talent with a busy line-up of bands.

Led by Vivien the Fire Engine and closely followed by numerous classic vehicles, Saturday’s parade was led by the Gala Princess and her prince in a horse-drawn carriage. They were followed by the mayor in a Triumph Stag and the floats and walking groups representing numerous local organisations and businesses.

Onlookers watched the parade making its way around the village to West End park for the Lions Gala, before Pop in the Park which finished the evening off with a performance by acclaimed 1960s tribute band, The 6Ts.

The weekend finished off with Picnic in the Park on Sunday, where a full day of performances by The Fenland Youth Swing Band, Back Two, Ivan Garford and Catch 22. The weekend ended with a concert on Sunday evening with the ever popular Alan Norris Big Band.
