VIDEO: Not a single visit for '˜Sweetheart' Kira after 239 days in RSPCA kennels - can you help find her a home?

Kira is affectionate, fun, and smart. But that doesn’t seem to be enough to find this crossbreed a new home.

The two-year-old shar pei cross Staffordshire bull terrier arrived at the RSPCA’s Block Fen Animal Centre, in March, Cambridgeshire, in September 2015.

Staff believe potential owners are put off by Kira’s shyness around new people but have urged the public to give this sweet dog a chance.

Kira was abandoned and her owner never came forward so the RSPCA stepped in to find her a new home.

But, despite being in the care of the animal welfare charity for 239 days, Kira hasn’t had a single person come and visit her or enquire to take her home.

Serena Moore has been caring for Kira during her stay. She said: “Kira’s only flaw is that she is very nervous when she meets new people. She just shies away and doesn’t sell herself when people walk past her kennel so I fear that’s why she’s had no interest.”

During her eight months in kennels, staff have taught her tricks such as ‘paw’ and ‘roll-over’ and she’s also been having some fun with agility courses. She has lots of energy and loves playing ball. She’d like an active home with owners who can keep her stimulated.

“She’s an absolute sweetheart,” Serena said. “She’s very intelligent and is capable of picking up anything.

“I don’t understand why she hasn’t got a home yet. I can’t praise her enough, she’s so lovely.”

Kira would like a home without other animals and with older children as she is best suited to a quiet household.

And Serena said her initial nervousness around people shouldn’t put them off: “When she gets to know you she absolutely loves you. It doesn’t take long for her to bond.”
