UPDATE: Two crashes involving nine vehicles blocking A14 in both directions in Cambridgeshire

The A14 eastbound and westbound is blocked after two separate serious multi-vehicle crashes in Cambridgeshire this morning, Thursday March 3.

The first crash took place at 7.15am at the Spittals interchange where the A14 meets the A141 eastbound.

The collision involves four vehicles: a Mercedes Sprinter van; Ford Transit van; a Vauxhall Movano; and a Vauxhall Zafira.

One person is understood to have received minor injuries.

Police are on the scene and recovery is underway.

A second crash took place at 7.54am on the westbound carriageway at Godmanchester.

This involved four cars and a lorry, a Hyundai i10, VW Passat, Vauxhall Zafira, Volvo lorry and a Kia Picanto.

One person was trapped in one of the vehicles and suffered minor injuries.

Fire crews were called to release the occupant of the vehicle.

There are already long delays in both directions, back towards Longstanton on the westbound carriageway and Alconbury, the A14 Spur and the A1 eastbound.
