Officers hope dental records could provide a breakthrough in discovering who the body part belongs to.

Specialists have been examining the head, which is believed to belong to a woman, with flesh still attached.

It is believed the skip originated from 40 miles away in Bedfordshire and crime scene investigators have remained at the Mepal quarry and construction site in Sharnbrook, Beds, since the discovery.

A post-mortem examination on the head came back inconclusive but detectives revealed the victim probably died before 2015.

A police spokeswoman said: “We are still keeping an open mind as to what happened. The head does have teeth which will form part of the investigation.”
