UPDATE: Neglected Peterborough Staffy Pooch finds a new home at long last after surgery to have both eyes removed

As the Peterborough Telegraph previously reported, Trudy Oakley received a £250 fine and avoided jail, despite already having a suspended sentence for an unrelated matter, after leaving her Staffordshire bull terrier Pooch with a congenital condition, which caused his right eye to erupt, for five years.

Pooch was seized by the police from Oakley’s property in Redmile Walk, Peterborough, then placed into the RSPCA’s care, before being rushed to a vet who removed his right eye.

The 10-year-old was taken in by RSPCA Peterborough and subsequently had to had his left eye removed, but is now fit and healthy again and now has a new home.

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: “Since the surgery Pooch has been given a new lease of life!

“We have noticed a huge difference in his behaviour and he is now enjoying the good life that he deserves. He copes amazingly well and can still do all the things that dogs enjoy doing.

“He loves his food, his bed, the sofa, his cuddles, but most of all human company”

Having been nursed back to health at the RSPCA’s Block Fen centre in March, he has now found a new home with new owners.

An RSPCA spokesman added: “What amazing news, we at the branch are so happy for the little lad!”
