The majority of residents in Stanground and Farcet should have their water back on after a burst water main in Peterborough Road which forced the closure of a primary school.
Anglian Water said just after 4pm today (Friday, October 23) that all 5,000 homes which had been affected now had their water running again.
The problem also hit Oakdale Primary School in Oakdale Avenue, Southfields, which had to shut for the day as there was no access to running cold water.
Parents were informed with the pupils then having to return home.
Cambridgeshire police said just before 11am this morning that Peterborough Road was collapsing and would be shut while Anglian Water dealt with the problem.
Nik Shelton, Anglian Water spokesperson, said: “We were called to a burst water main at 9.30am at Peterborough Road, Farcet.
“This pipe serves parts of Peterborough and the burst has, unfortunately, led to several people being off water or suffering low pressure in their homes.”
Mr Shelton also apologised for anyone affected by the incident.
