VIDEO: Dashcam captures moment driver narrowly misses dog walker after mounting kerb in Cambridgeshire village

The impatient motorist swerved round a corner and on to the pavement, almost mowing down the pedestrian who was out walking with their dog.

Benjamin Burton captured the dramatic near-miss on his car's dash-cam as the Jeep-style vehicle ploughed past him while he was waiting to turn right.

Benjamin, 31, said: "I was very shocked that they mounted the pavement to get around me, just glad there were no people walking out of the shop at that moment.

"I have reported it to the police however they have said that without a registration number they can't do anything more which is a shame."

Benjamin was driving through Waterbeach, Cambs, on his morning commute on Wednesday when the frightening incident occurred.

It's not known exactly how fast the car was travelling but it exceeded the 30mph limit.

Thankfully the dog walker managed to step back to avoid being hit.

Benjamin, from Ely, Cambs, later posted the footage on social media saying: "In my day to day commute I see lots of poor driving but today was by far the worst!

"Driving through Waterbeach the car behind was following very closely and as I slowed to turn right they didn't slow and mounted the kerb and sped past narrowly missing a pedestrian, which I expect they couldn't have seen when they first mounted the kerb.

"Unfortunately my dash cam didn't have the quality to get the registration number so I think I will have to get a new one!"

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary warned other motorists of the consequences of driving dangerously.

“You should only overtake when it is safe and legal to do so," she said.

"Dangerous driving is a serious offence which can have devastating consequences for road users and also result in a prison sentence."
