Rail delays between Peterborough and London after person hit by train

Rail commuters are facing delays between Peterborough and London King's Cross after a person was hit by a train.

The person was hit on the lines between Peterborough and Stevenage.

Major disruption is expected until 11am.

The power to the lines in the area has been switched off to allow Network Rail response staff and the emergency services to attend to the person and therefore all lines are currently blocked. Train services may be cancelled or revised.

Great Northern and Thameslink services travelling to and from Cambridge are currently unaffected by this disruption.

Great Northern and Thameslink customers are strongly advised to allow extra time for their journey this morning, to check journey planners and speak with station staff.

Tickets are being accepted for the following:

. Greater Anglia between Cambridge and London

. CrossCountry between Peterborough and Cambridge

. East Midlands Trains between Peterborough and Ely

. London Underground via reasonable routes

. Mutual ticket acceptance with Thameslink and Great Northern

Due to the disruption Peterborough - Horsham services will start and terminate at Welwyn Garden City or Stevenage.

Peterborough to London King’s Cross services have been cancelled.

Rail replacement buses will be in operation at Stevenage and Biggleswade by 8.30am and Hitchin by 9.30am. These will not be running to a schedule so please speak with station staff.

London North Eastern Railway customers may use tickets to travel on Virgin Trains services on the West Coast Main Line to and from London Euston.
