Rush hour traffic across Peterborough is much heavier than normal as drivers try to negotiate the roads and roundabouts that have been hit, with particular problems in Hampton and at Rhubarb Bridge..

Some lights that had stopped are now back on - but there are still a large number that are not working.

A Peterborough City Council spokesman said: “There is currently an issue with power supply knocking every traffic signal out in the city. This is unprecedented. Our engineers are currently working on this and the power needs to stabilise in order for the signals to restart.

“We advise drivers take extra care at junctions and drive slowly and be aware of pedestrians. At roundabouts please follow standard roundabout protocol.”
