Northminster itsel will be closed from today (Monday) for a period of up to three weeks to allow for the section of the multi-storey nearest to the road to be taken down. During this time, access to Brook Street will be maintained.

Following that, Cattle Market Way will be closed from 6pm on Saturday, April 18 to 6am on Monday, April 20. During this time access to the residential car park for the flats will be from City Road. Redirection signage will be in effect during the closure for pedestrians and motorists.

The demolition of the car park is due to be completed in the summer.

The works are needed because the car park has reached the end of its life, according to Peterborough City Council.

Last month, the authority announced that plans to regenerate the city centre site, which includes the space occupied by the car park, have taken a step forward with the decision to transfer the land to the Peterborough Investment Partnership (PIP).

The PIP will be responsible for drawing up a detailed scheme and securing outline planning consent to attract external development and secure the regeneration of Northminster.

It is anticipated that the site could include apartments, a replacement car park and a new market hall.
