Motorists have been warned to seek alternatives routes after the North Bank Road between Whittlesey and Peterborough was closed due to flooding.
The road alongside the River Nene east of Peterborough to the west of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice was closed just after midnight (Sunday, December 28) after water levels rose following recent heavy rain.
A police spokesman said the road was likely to remain closed today and added: “Drivers should avoid the road and seek alternative routes.”
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “Heavy rain on Saturday has caused river levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road.”
