Lorry driver killed in road accident at Huntingdon is named

Police have named the driver who died in a crash between two lorries near Huntingdon.

Philip Asplin (59) of Cedar Close, March, suffered fatal injuries after the lorry he was driving collided with another HGV and instantly caught fire just after 2.30pm yesterday (Tuesday).

The second lorry caught fire a short while after, however the driver, a 23-year-old man from Hornchurch, Greater London, managed to escape although suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

The accident happened on the A141 at Hartford, Huntingdon.

The fire caused serious damage to the road therefore extensive work will be carried out over the next 24 hours to repair the surface. Diversions have been put in place while the work is completed.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles leading up to the moments before the incident.
