UPDATE:A1 north of Peterborough closed after accident involving police vehicle

The A1 north of Peterborough is closed southbound between the A151 and B668 near Cottesmore due to a collision involving a police vehicle

Two police officers have been taken to hospital following the collision which closed the A1 in both directions for much of today (November 25). The northbound carriageway has since reopened.

The crash involved a police vehicle and two heavy goods vehicles at 11.23am at Colsterworth.

Lincolnshire police said: “Two police officers have been taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

“The driver of the second HGV has also been taken to hospital.

“We are grateful for the patience of those who have been affected and ask that if you are able to, please avoid the area. The A1 southbound is likely to be closed for some time.”

Emergency services including Lincolnshire Police are in attendance. Highways England said it has deployed staff to assist.

Road users are advised to expect disruption and to allow extra journey time.

Southbound road users are advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol. Exit the A1 at the A607 for Harlaxton, continuing straight over the Swingbridge Road Roundabout. Turn right onto the A606 westbound. Go straight at Farmers Arms Pub Roundabout towards Melton Mowbray.

At the Norman Way/Thorpe Lane junction, continue straight onto the A606 Thorpe End and Sherrand Street. Turn left onto Burton Street heading south out of Melton Mowbray. Continue along the A606 to the Barleythorpe Roundabout. Turn left onto the Oakham Bypass and continue straight over the Railway Bridge Roundabout, Ashwell Roundabout, and A606/B668 roundabout to the A606/A6003/B640 roundabout. Turn left and continue on the A606 through villages of Whitwell and Empingham to the A1/A606 Stamford southbound junction, turn left to rejoin the A1 southbound.
