A woman has died following a serious collision on the A1 in Cambridgeshire this morning, Thursday July 28.

Officers were called at around 3am to reports of a collision involving a HGV and a pedestrian.

A woman in her 30s was hit by a HGV on the southbound carriageway. A formal identification of the woman will not take place until tomorrow, Friday July 29.

The southbound carriageway was closed between Brampton Hut and Wyboston while the HGV is recovered but fully reopened at around 12noon and traffic is flowing well.

The northbound carriageway was closed but reopened at approximately 8am this morning.

There were long delays on the A1 either side of the closure and on the A14 in both directions around Huntingdon.

Duty Operations Manager for Highways England in the East, Ray George said: “We have worked closely with police to reopen these roads as soon as it was safe to do so.

“I’d like to thank drivers for their patience this morning while accident investigation work needed to take place.”

Anyone who saw the incident or a woman walking along the A1 this morning should contact police on 101 and ask to speak to a member of the Road Policing Unit.
