UPDATE: '˜No water, no toilets and people are getting desperate' - Passengers vent anger after being stuck on broken down train for more than five hours

One person struck on the Hull Trains service said there was no water and no toilets for people to use, and that fellow commuters were “getting desperate.”

Matt Tuite, who was one of several passengers waiting to be let off the train, tweeted: “Stuck on @Hull_Trains outside Peterborough. Boiling hot, lines running either side with passengers rubber necking. This is a farce. Worst service ever.”

He tweeted Hull Trains again at 3.20pm, nearly five hours after being stuck on the train, saying: “We have no water, no toilets and people are getting desperate.”

Daniel Farrell tweeted to Hull Trains: “We’re still sat here and despite admirable efforts by your staff, still have no idea what’s going on 4 hours later.”

He later added: “Patience now really running low @Hull_Trains still on the broken down 9.48am and no contingency plan? Staff trying their best but really don’t know what to do.”

Hull Trains replied to him: “Hi Daniel, sorry for all the trouble. We have relief trains being arranged with water and better facilitates.”

Mr Farrell tweeted back: “I’m sure you are, and on board staff have been great but really five hours and numerous plans on, this has been a cock up.”

Passengers were seen at 4pm being evacuated from the train.

The PT has attempted to contact Hull Trains but has so far not received a response.

However, Hull Trains has tweeted: “INFO: The broken down service will be coupled with the rescue train and proceeding at a slow speed towards Peterborough. There will be water provided along with customer support from staff at Peterborough station. We are sincerely sorry for the delays.

“UPDATE: Due to major delays we are arranging customers to be taken off services and onto relief trains. There will be access to facilities such as toilets and water will be provided.”

The broken down train came to a halt this morning, with fire crews and British Transport Police called out shortly after 10.30am as the ruptured fuel tanks led to fuel spilling onto the tracks, causing delays of an hour between Peterborough and Grantham.

Frustrated passengers stuck on the train have contacted the Peterborough Telegraph, with Dave Campbell tweeting: “Yes still here, train deemed “not safe” but still no plan B.”

Paul Hopton, tweeting more than an hour ago, posted a photo from the scene with the words: “Still not moved for 4 hours now!”

National Rail said disruption is expected to continue until 7pm, with cancellations and delays of up to an hour.
