Two men flee after crashing car into River Nene in Whittlesey

Two men fled the scene after crashing a car into the River Nene in Whittlesey.

Police were called at 7.12pm last night, Thursday November 30, with reports of a car submerged in the River Nene in Whittlesey.

It has been reported that a grey Citroen C4 was carrying out an overtake in North Bank and went into the water.

The location was halfway between Millennium Bridge Dog in a Doublet.

Two men were seen to leave the car and run away from the scene.

The police helicopter was deployed to locate the men due to the freezing conditions and that they would be wet through.

They were not found and searches were stood down at about 8.10pm.

The vehicle was recovered at about 10.40pm.

The occupants of the vehicle have not yet been identified or located.
