TRAFFIC UPDATE: A47 in Peterborough reopens after serious crash causes traffic chaos

Traffic in the north of Peterborough is still very heavy this evening, despite the A47 eastbound reopening following a very serious crash.

Traffic is backed up on the A47 Soke Parkway, Nene Parkway, Bourges Boulevard as well as other surrounding routes.

Police have now recovered a red Volkswagen Golf, which left the carriageway at around 1.25pm, and completed accident investigation work.

A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

The car left the road, hit a sign and rolled into a tree in a wooded area.

At least 16 emergency vehicles, including the Magpas air ambulance attended the scene.

Police may a search of the wooded area to ensure nobody else had been thrown from the car.

The man is in a serious but stable condition at Peterborough City Hospital.
