Bourges Boulevard in Peterborough has been closed after a cyclist was seriously injured in a hit and run incident.

The cyclist was found seriously injured, lying in the road by police officers early this morning (Saturday, May 23).

Insp Terry Furlong said: “At 5.20am officers on patrol found a cyclist lying in the road, this appeared to be as a result of a road traffic collision in which a black vehicle was involved and failed to stop.”

The cyclist was taken to hospital and his condition was described as “very poorly”.

The stretch of Bourges Boulevard between the Westgate roundabout towards the Queensgate roundabout has been closed while an investigation takes place.

Insp Furlong added: “The road will be open later today but we cannot say precisely when. A detailed examination of the scene is being carried out by forensic officers.”

The incident is being investigated by Sgt Simon Goldsmith and Insp Furlong added: “Sgt Goldsmith has appealed for anyone who saw the collision take place, or a black coloured vehicle with damage in the area, to contact him.”

Anyone with any information should call 101 and ask for Sgt Goldsmith.
