Hour long delays to trains from London to Peterborough after woman is killed on railway

There are hour long delays to trains between London and Peterborough today after a woman was killed on the tracks.

Emergency services are dealing with the incident near Welham Green, blocking the line through the station. This is causing delays of up to 60 minutes to journeys between London Kings Cross and Peterborough.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “We were called to Welham Green station, shortly before 11.00am on Tuesday, 3 May following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP, Hertfordshire Constabulary and paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended where a woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the woman and inform her family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

There is no firm estimate yet of how long this will last but it is likely to continue until at least 12:30pm. When the line reopens, trains may be delayed until at least 2pm as services return to normal.
