British Transport Police arrest two boys after concrete put on Peterborough rail line

The 12 and 13-year-olds were arrested after the British Transport Police (BTP) said it had caught suspects placing a small piece of concrete on the track near Oundle Road.

It comes just three days after a train driver near Peterborough Station reported a youth shining a laser at the train cab he was sitting in, although the laser is not believed to have gone in the driver’s eyes.

A spokesman for the BTP said it takes this offence very seriously. Responding to the obstruction, he added: “Officers were called to the line near Oundle Road in Peterborough at 1.39pm on Tuesday, February 23 following reports of two youths on the tracks.

“Officers quickly attended the scene where a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of causing an obstruction.

“The two youths have been bailed until Tuesday, March 19 pending further enquires.”

The BTP was called shortly after 9pm last Saturday to the report of a youth shining the laser at the train cab, A spokesman said: “Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
