Three people were trapped on a balcony at a home in Bretton after a wheelie bin next to the front door caught fire.

The blaze started at 1.55am in Barnstock, Bretton, Peterborough.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “A wheelie bin was on fire that was pushed against a door. Three people were on the first floor balcony but could not exit the property because the fire was affecting the only exit.

“Crews used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and returned to their stations by 2.40am.

“No one was injured.”

An investigation into the blaze is being carried out to discover the cause.
