Jamie Leggett, from Hampton, saved £754 a year on his energy bill: “The Big Six have a monopoly on the market, so I found it really nice that the council has tried to find a fairer way for its residents. Peterborough Energy is local, fair and competitively priced, and I found the customer service extremely personable.

“I put the money I saved towards activities on my recent honeymoon in Mauritius, and I got to fulfil an ambition to swim with dolphins.”

The average saving for dual fuel customers who pay monthly is £248*.

Peterborough Energy also has a gas and electricity tariff available to city residents with pre-payment meters (Peterborough Energy PAYG). Almost 1,000 households that have switched are now on the Peterborough Energy pre-payment tariff.

Councillor John Holdich, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said: “That we’ve helped 5,000 households to switch to a cheaper energy tariff, collectively saving over £1.3million, is fantastic news. It shows that many people are still simply paying far too much for their gas and electricity.
