A former boxing world champion helped raise thousands of pounds for charity on a visit to Peterborough.

Amir Khan, a former two time world champion and Olympic medallist, visited the Gladstone Community Centre on Friday.

The event was held to raise money for the boxer’s charity, The Amir Khan Foundation, and was organised by Atif Iqbal, from Peterborough Active Youth. There was a three course meal, followed by a talk from the former champion.

Mr Iqbal, pictured on the left with Amir (centre) and former boxer Bilal Javed (right), said the event had been a success. He said: “With pledges made at the event, we managed to raise £320,000 for Amir’s charity.”
