Test your fire alarms when putting the clocks forward

Have your say

Residents pushing their clocks forward by an hour this weekend are also being urged to test their smoke alarms.

Residents should check their alarm once a month by pressing the button and once a year change their battery, unless it is a 10-year alarm.

They should also twice a year vacuum and wipe the smoke alarm casing to ensure dust isn’t blocking the sensor chamber (but for mains wired alarms, switch them off first.)

Specialist smoke alarms can also be provided for those who are deaf or suffering from a hearing impairment.
