The Easter break was not a time of rest for some of the strongest men and women in the country who hit the weights at the Embankment Athletics Track.
The muscular athletes were taking part in a national strongman event in front of onlookers on Sunday, April 5.
The 12 men and five women showed their strength across five disciplines.
These were the axle press (lifting a weight over your head) deadlifts from the ground, the farmer’s walk (walking with weights) the yoke (carrying a large metal frame with a crossbar) and carrying atlas stones on to different height platforms.
The winner of the men’s event was Rob McStay from Peterborough. Second was Liam Pattinson and third was Joe Manning.
In the women’s event, Victoria Henderson came first ahead of Faye Jordan and Yasmin Siddique.
