Seven fire crews attended a fire at Queensgate Shopping Centre this evening.
The crews were called because there was a high voltage cable on fire in a plant room. They accessed the room in the basement through the bus station.
Police tape was stopping buses from arriving and leaving.
As of 8pm this evening (Saturday, October 6) there was only one crew left.
A fire service spokeswoman said the high number of units attended due to it being a high rising building.
Nobody has been hurt.
Centre director at Queensgate Shopping Centre Mark Broadhead said: “On Saturday at 6.15pm, an electrical fire was discovered in the shopping centre’s sprinkler plant room.
“It was quickly brought under control and the room was declared safe at 6.59pm. We are now working with UK Power Networks to determine the cause of the fire.
“I would like to thank Queensgate’s team and the emergency services for their fast and professional actions. No injuries were incurred and Queensgate was fully open for business as normal on Sunday.”
