Serious two lorry crash closes A47 in both directions

A serious collision involving two lorries on the A47 near Thorney closed the road in both directions this morning, Friday March 3.

The westbound carriageway has now reopened but police are reporting “severe traffic disruption.”

The collision has taken place on the Thorney bypass close to the Wisbech Road/B1167 New Cut roundabout.

It took place on the eastbound side, which will remain closed until after this evening’s rush hour. The collision involved a lorry carrying metal girders and an Asda lorry which has spilt its load on part of the Thorney bypass.

One lorry driver suffered minor injuries. The air ambulance landed at the scene as a precaution.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
