The man was seen collapsing just after the finishing line, with St John Ambulance (SJA) volunteers administering CPR then giving him A&E level care before taking him to the hospital.

Peterborough City Council said the runner remained in hospital today, but that it had no further information.

A volunteer who helped out with the SJA during the run said the man received chest compressions to get his heart back into rhythm.

He was then taken to the treatment tent and received care that would equal that given in many A&Es across the county.

Several medical professionals then attended to him before he was taken to hospital.
