The new year has already delivered a perfect start for parents in Peterborough with 10 babies born on the first day of 2015.
While party-goers and revellers in the city toasted the new year, parents at Peterborough City Hospital were able to celebrate their own memorable moments.
The first baby to be delivered was Khaiam Latif who was born at 12.13am to proud parents Abdul Hameed Latif (31) and Sahar Babakarkhil (26) who live in Lincoln Road.
Khaiam’s birth means three-year-old Abdul Haseem Latif now has a little brother to play with.
Dad Abdul believes Khaiam is his “gift of the new year” after his newborn went past his due date of December 19 before being delivered on January 1.
He joked that his son’s early birth in the new year has made him famous before adding: “I’m very excited and very happy.”
Khaiam weighed in at seven pounds and nine ounces.
Another mother to give birth was Anfal Abid who delivered her baby at 7.15am. Her son did not yet have a name.
It’s the fourth child for Anfal and dad Abid, who live in Gladstone Street, following Saffa (9) Usman (5) and Jawairia (3).
Anfal was not expecting to give birth until January 21, so Abid was in for a shock when he returned home from working at the Moonlight Grill in March at 1am on Thursday.
He managed a couple of hours of sleep before Anfal woke him up to complain she was in pain.
After ringing the hospital and being advised to come in, a few hours later she was giving birth.
Dad Abid said: “I was surprised at first but excited.
“The children are happy as well. When I told them they were excited and smiling. They think it’s a lovely gift for mummy.
“We have two sons and daughters so our family is complete now.
“My wife is really happy and our son will bring us more happiness.”
