A £1 million scheme is being carried out which allows a city primary school to expand by another 210 places.

Works will begin in April in Celta Road, Woodston, to reduce congestion and allow for two-way traffic, while the car park at Belsize Community Centre will also be expanded.

The two month scheme will improve the infrastructure so Peterborough City Council can expand Woodston Primary School by another form of entry, taking it up to 630 pupils by September 2019.

Further works include adding more lighting in the car park to help prevent anti-social behaviour. The council said cars parked on Celta Road cause congestion and stop the two way flow of traffic.

Works will mostly be completed during off-peak hours and will begin at the community centre car park and footpaths, followed by the widening of the carriageway and construction of sheltered parking which will require the use of two-way traffic lights.

A council spokesman added: “To complete the project, the road will be re-surfaced during off-peak hours and the road will be closed during these times, although residents will still be able to gain access to their properties.”

Residents will be written to with more details nearer the time and alternative routes to businesses will be publicised.
