More than 30 campaigners held a demonstration against the Government’s ‘bedroom tax’ in Peterborough city centre yesterday (Saturday).
The demonstrators held the protest outside Peterborough Town Hall in Bridge Street, with many carrying banners.
Lisa Forbes, Labour’s prospective Parliamentary candidate for Peterborough and organiser of the demonstration said “The bedroom tax will hit families in Peterborough already struggling to make ends meet, and risks driving people out of their homes.
“This Government is making disabled people pay more when they need more space due to their disability.
“At exactly the same time as the bedroom tax comes into effect the Government is giving thousands of millionaires a tax cut of £100,000 a year.”
A police spokesman said the demonstration had gone off without incident.
