Start-ups can rent for free from the council

Peterborough City Council has agreed to let council-owned retail and industrial units to fledgling and start-up businesses for short periods of time rent-free.

The ‘easy in, easy out’ arrangement, approved by the council’s cabinet on Monday, will be used at the: Herlington Centre, Orton Malborne, Pyramid Centre, Bretton, Alfric Square, Woodston and Saville Road, Westwood.

Companies who sign up to the deal will still pay normal business costs such as rates and utility charges.

If the council identifies a full commercial letting then notice could be served and the unit let to a full paying tenant. However, other options would be discussed with the existing tenant for alternative accommodation if available.
