Spending by North West Cambridgeshire and Fenland candidates at General Election revealed

The spending by candidates contesting the North West Cambridgeshire and North East Cambridgeshire constituencies at the General Election last December has been revealed by the Electoral Commission.

Conservative Shailesh Vara (Conservative) won the North West Cambridgeshire seat - which encompasses large parts of Peterborough - ahead of Cathy Cordiner-Achenbach (Labour), Bridget Smith (Liberal Democrat) and Nicola Day (Green Party).

Mr Vara also spent the most during his campaign (£13,430), followed by Ms Smith (£2,900), Ms Cordiner-Achenbach (£1,569) and Ms Day (£350).

In North East Cambridgeshire, which covers large swathes of Fenland, including Whittlesey, Conservative Steve Barclay won the seat.

Mr Barclay spent £12,986, more than Diane Boyd from Labour (£3,492), Rupert Moss-Eccardt of the Liberal Democrats (£2,453) and Ruth Johnson from the Green Party (£132).

At a General Election parties are allowed to spend a maximum of £30,000 per constituency.
