Plans for £8 million expansion at school

The former school of pop star Aston Merrygold will have new accommodation comprising 11 classrooms, a kitchen and dining facility, and a science classroom if the development gets the go ahead.

Secondary school pupils will also be able to enjoy a new floodlit all weather sports pitch, while a car park extension and new service area for the kitchen are also mooted.

The proposals will expand the school in Ledbury Road by one form of entry, increasing its capacity from 1,800 to 1,950 pupils from September 2017.

Jack Hunt is putting £500,000 towards the works, with the rest paid for by Peterborough City Council.

The council’s planning committee will now decide at a later date whether to approve the expansion or reject it.

Jack Hunt is one of three Private Finance Initiative schools in Peterborough. Consent will be sought from the PFI funders to carry out the works at the school.

Councillor Ed Murphy, member for Ravensthorpe on the council, said: “Many residents are concerned that the development will adversely impact on their neighbourhood and their own properties and I have referred the matter to committee so that residents’ concerns can be considered.”
