Both Peterborough City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council have demonstrated their support for the Armed Forces community by securing silver awards in the Ministry of Defence employer recognition scheme.
The prestigious initiative was launched in 2014 by the Prime Minister to recognise and reward UK employers for their support and commitment.
The city council employs a number of staff who have connections to the Armed Forces. The authority also has an Armed Forces Board which organises several supportive events such as Armed Forces Day, a ‘Blitz Bash’ and various celebrations for veterans.
Cllr John Fox, chairman of the city council’s Armed Forces Board, said: “I am so proud that we have achieved such a prestigious award, it’s a big feather in our cap and testament to the hard work and dedication of many people.” Both councils will receive their awards in November.
