Developers Weston Homes has put in an application to Peterborough City Council for 358 new homes on Peterborough’s South Bank, up from the previously approved 280.

Works are already underway at the site as part of the £120 million development which will also include office accommodation and a hotel, as well as restaurant, retail and leisure facilities, including a new arts centre.

Weston Homes said it is hoping to receive planning approval for the extra homes from Peterborough City Council’s planning committee at a meeting on March 14th.

A spokesperson said: “Weston Homes was originally granted planning consent for 280 residential units at the Fletton Quays mixed use development.

“During the implementation of detailed design work the company has been able to increase the local community benefits of the project in return for residential uplift within the existing pre-approved envelope of the scheme.”

Weston Homes hopes to have show homes ready in November this year, with the first people moving into the apartments from August 2018.

The developers said the increased community benefits at Fletton Quays from its new application would see the extension of a public riverwalk between a footbridge and the council’s new offices at Fletton Quays.

Building works have already begun on site, starting with the construction of the riverside walkway and the public piazza. Once those are completed the building of the apartments will begin.

Commenting on its latest planning application, the Weston Homes spokesperson said the new apartments would be built within “existing approved height parameters established under the outline [planning] consent.”

She added: “During the preparation of the application Weston Homes also carried out extensive technical analysis to ensure that the wider site has available capacity for the additional units, with all technical reports submitted as part of the application.”
