Her nephew, Peterborough Telegraph photographer David Lowndes, said: “Yvonne dedicated her life to the city. She was quite selfless and worked very hard for Peterborough.”

Current Conservative Park ward councillor John Peach said: “Many people in Park ward and the city will remember Yvonne for her hard work both in the ward and at the Town Hall.”

City council leader Cllr John Holdich said: “Yvonne was not only a friend, but a terrific councillor who represented the residents of Park ward for almost two decades. She was a champion of the underdog and always thought of other people.

“Her commitment to public service was recognised in 2012 when she was awarded Honorary Alderman status and has remained committed to her local area through her work with Friends of Central Park which she founded. Overall she made a very positive contribution to Peterborough.
