Counterfeit goods worth around £15,000 seized at car boot sale

Goods of clothing, perfume and sunglasses to the value of around £15,000 were seized from one individual at the car boot sale on Wellington Street. Additional operations targeting the sellers of suspected counterfeit goods are planned in the coming weeks.

A formal investigation into suspected criminal offences is now being undertaken by the council’s trading standards team (regarding offences under the Trade Marks Act 1994).

Rob Edmunds, trading standards officer for Peterborough City Council, said: “The sale of counterfeit items has a direct economic impact on legitimate trade and the safety of Peterborough consumers. We will continue to work with the police, businesses and the public to stop counterfeit goods being sold in the region.

“Anyone with information regarding counterfeit goods should pass details to their local trading standards team via Citizens’ Advice by calling 03454 04 05 06.”
