Concerns over plan for homes and restaurant, pub and café in Hampton

The proposals in Eagle Way, Hampton Hargate, would see 62 apartments and a new restaurant, pub and café all developed.
However, the land sits adjacent to the St Edmunds Court care home, and local Lib Dem campaigner Chris Wiggin claimed there were fears about what the development might mean for the residents.

Hide AdHe said: “Local residents in Hampton have expressed a wide range of concerns about this planning application. I share many of these concerns, particularly around wheelchair access, the effects on residents of nearby St Edmunds Court - from construction noise, lack of light and loss of privacy - insufficient parking provision, and the results of the transport survey which do not match my experience of regular journeys passing by this location both on foot and on the bus.
“Although the designs submitted are visually striking and very impressive, I feel the scale of the proposed development is too large and not in keeping with the surrounding buildings.”
The plans are for 29 one-bed apartments, 29 two-bed apartments and four two-bed penthouse apartments.
Hargate city councillor Howard Fuller said a previous outline application for commercial development on the site had been approved.

Hide AdHe added: “We’ve had a mixed response. Many people are concerned about the size and scale but others said it’s great.
“I would not want to see any additional on-street parking as a result of this development for residential properties or retail units. We can’t afford to have any more.”
