A cabinet member at Peterborough City Council and a former Mayor of Peterborough were among the casualties from the local elections.

Cabinet member for communities and environment capital Nigel North, and fellow Conservative Paula Thacker, failed to hold onto their seats on the council after votes were cast yesterday (Thursday, May 5).

However, they were not the only two people to lose their seats.

Labour’s Nabil Shabbir, Jonas Yonga and Nick Thulbourn were all defeated as was leading independent David Harrington and Conservative Pedro Faustino.

Mr North said: “I’m obviously disappointed. I worked hard but at the end of the day the electorate has to make its own decisions.”
