A Peterborough man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent following a flat fire in Eastfield Road.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire at 9.19pm on Saturday (December 19).

The resident that called 999 could smell smoke coming through the floor boards.

Crews from the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade and Stanground attended and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

They ventilated the property before returning to their stations by 10.30pm.

Nobody was hurt in the fire and it is not believed there was anyone inside the flat at the time.

A 35-year-old has been bailed to return to Thorpe Wood Police Station on January 18.
