Peterborough fire crews attend three arson attacks in under 20 minutes

Firefighters in Peterborough were called to three arson attacks within 20 minutes of each other yesterday afternoon.

A crew from Peterborough Volunteers Fire Brigade was first called to rubbish on fire outside the Welland minimart in Scalford Drive in Peterborough at 5.15pm on Thursday March 9.

Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and returned to their station by 7.30pm.

Just five minutes later at 5.20pm, crews from Dogsthorpe and Stanground were called to a fire in a garage block in The Dell.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and returned to their station by 6.12pm.

Then at 5.34pm, crews from Peterborough Volunteers Fire Brigade and Stanground were called to two fires close to each other in a field in Norwood Lane, where mattresses and furniture had been set alight.

Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and returned to their station by 7.15pm.

All three fires were set deliberately.
