St Peter & All Souls church, in Geneva Street, Peterborough, will be open from noon on Friday 4 March to noon on Friday 5 March.

The move has come following Pope Francis’s call to all parishes to open their doors for 24 hours to allow people to go to confession before Easter.

Priests from St. Hugh’s Deanery, who cover the city area, will be on hand to hear confessions any time during those 24 hours with the church open for private prayers and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Fr John Minh, parish priest at St Luke’s, Orton Melbourne and dean of St Hughes deanery said: “This is the first time that a Peterborough city church will be open 24 hours.

“We hope it will give people who are busy with work or other commitments to drop in at their convenience to make their confessions, or for a few moments of private prayer.”

The Peterborough church will be among hundreds of Catholic parishes around the world that will open for 24 hours ahead of Easter to give people the opportunity to go to confessions and prepare for the most important Christian festival.
