The long process of knocking down the old Regional Pool in Peterborough has nearly been completed – with just a couple of walls left still standing.
The Peterborough Telegraph visited the site this week, and saw how the work was in its closing stages now.
The Regional Fitness and Swimming Centre was closed in September 2023 following works to remove asbestos and then the discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC).
The decision was made to permanently close the centre by the council's cabinet in March 2024 due to costs to repair the building not representing best value for the authority.
The existing site where the fitness centre is the prime location for a replacement – with the council owning the land. The authority has vowed to retain it while plans to develop the area are finalised.
