The demonstration began and at 1pm in Cathedral Square.

The group said a ‘Cube of Truth’ event is a peaceful street demonstration in which participants wear one of the organisation’s masks while holding a “truth” sign or an electronic device that plays graphic and powerful footage of animal exploitation.

The group has members around the world and over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend it has been staging similar events as far and wide as Australia, the USA and the Czech Republic.

A spokesperson from Anomymous for the Voiceless (AV) said: “AV is an animal rights organisation that specialises in educating the public on animal abuse and fostering highly effective activism groups worldwide. We hold an abolitionist stance against all forms of animal exploitation and promote a clear vegan message.

“Our vision is a world with total animal liberation achieved where non-human animals have their fundamental rights returned and are considered as sentient individuals who are here with us, not for us.

“When members of the public approach us, we ask them if they would like to have a conversation about what they are seeing, then we get them to question their behaviours and what they are supporting with their purchases. .

“We currently coordinate and support 100,000 volunteers in 596 AV chapters in 61 countries, alongside running activist training programmes, and deliver impactful online campaigns.”
